ABOUT

Stephanie Amaterstein is a tattooist and surrealist painter, exploring the boundaries of the seen and unseen. She grew up in the Victorian bushland, before moving to Melbourne city at the age of 15 to study at the Victorian College of the Arts.

Heavily influenced by her love of science fiction, dark surrealism and all things weird and wonderful, Stephanie was quickly drawn to the world of tattooing. She began her career as a tattooist in 2010, working in 4 studios around Melbourne over the last 13 years.

Stephanie recently returned to Melbourne after a year tattooing in Ireland, and can now be found at Tanuki Tattoo Melbourne.

Traversing many styles within the discipline of tattooing, including both full colour and black work, she adopts techniques and applies her own individual flair to each piece she creates. Her work explores human nature and our relationship with plants, as well as where the natural world intersects with the “other” - blurring the line between our everyday lives and the realm of dreams.
